Jimmy with a big wahoo
wahoo6web.jpg

Bio/Stats: Born and raised in Illinois, spent much of his childhood learning the finer intricacies of landing hard-to-catch, easily spooked fish.  Went to school in Colorado, studied the art of fly fishing.  Spends all his free time learning the minutest details of fish behavior.  Regularly misses friends weddings in search of record proportion rainbow trout.  Has fished the crystal clear flats of Diego Garcia, raging rapids of Colorado, cypress trees lakes of Louisiana, bluffs of Missouri's big water, lily pads of Illinois and Indiana, Idaho, Texas, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Hawaii, Arkansas, Arizona, Michigan and rivers of Alaska.  Currently living in Anchorage, AK.

Favorite Fish: Bonefish.  Favorite spot: Antero Reservoir.  Preferred fishing method: Whatever is most productive but all things being equal then I'd choose fly fishing.  Best fishing moment:  First line scorching bonefish run.  Favorite fishing quote:  (Al Linder) "Ha. I see a lot of guys out fishing for big bass with Mickey Mouse tackle...You're never going to catch a big bass like that." Funniest fishing story: Yano falling off the boat the first time at Table Rock.  Know he has a fish when you hear: "Don't count your crow until it giggles"

"Cadet Yanovitch: Grab the net"

Born, to fish, in Camp LeJeune North Carolina and raised across the U.S. (PA, WA, NJ, VA, CA, CO) Doug has fished for just about every species in the Continental US.  Went to school in Colorado and has been mastering the high mountain lakes and rivers of Colorado since 1981.  Prefers the term catching to fishing and if you go catching with him you will understand why!  Has mentored 80% of the Cast and Blast staff, but does not accept responsibility for any of their debauchery.  Despite having his precious fishing log stolen by "Not So Classy" Yano, his innate fishing sense still prevails in all waters.   Prior to marriage, he logged more catching hours than most log in a lifetime.  After marriage he has still managed to out catch any who care to come to his class room, lacks confidence, but aside from that is a good guy.  Abroad has fished the plentiful waters of the Sea of Cortez chasing marlin, roosterfish, tuna and dorado, the pristine waters of Costa Rica catching monster sailfish and tarpon; and the Bahamian fishing grounds outside of Bimini made famous by Hemingway.  In North America he has extensive fishing experience in Calif to include: the Pacific Coast for all species, the infamous "BIG" Bass lakes of Calif (Casitas), the fantastic salmon runs of the Feather and Sacramento rivers and trout in the Sierras.  He has caught all species of salmon and trout through out Alaska in addition to halibut and grayling.  He has also fished Canada for walleye, smallies, and pike.  On the east coast he has spent an extensive amount of time catching down in Fla and the Keys, primarily targeting bass, peacock bass, mahi-mahi, sails, cuda, kings, grouper, tuna and the hard-charging tarpon.  Back to his home area waters he has mastered famous fisheries such as the San Juan in NM, the waters of Yellowstone NP catching native cutthroat on dries, the famous waters of MT to include The Beaverhead and Big Hole and last but not least the waters of his home state from the sportsmans paradise of the Gunnison valley on the western slope, to the gold medal waters of the Platte and the high mountain lakes and streams of the Rockies.  Currently lives in Colorado Springs and is stationed at the Academy.

Favorite Fish:  The ones that bite.  Favorite Spot:  Freshwater: Eleven-mile Canyon; Saltwater:  The Keys.  Preferred fishing method:  Fly Fishing with Sage Rods and Ross Reels.  Best fishing moment:  watching my 9 year old son hook, fight and land a 19" rainbow on the fly rod at Spinney Mtn Reservoir.  Favorite Fishing Quote:  Odds of landing another wife:  1 in 2, Odds of landing another Muskie:  1 in 3,500.  Muskies enjoy quite a reputation.  Most fishermen refer to them as the fish of 10,000 casts.  And most divorce lawyers know them as the fish of 10,000 broken marriages.  Funniest fishing story:  Watching my rod fly into the Sacramento river with a huge salmon on the other end and then watching my brother-in-law down stream hook into what he thought was a fish and reeling in my rod with the fish on the other end, which unfortunately ended up breaking off.  Know he has a fish when you hear:  "THE DOOOCTOOOOR" or "Do any of you guys want to reel it in?"
